On the 10th of January, we took a very important step to move forward with our reforestation projects. We held a special training for all the people we are going to hire to carry out the sowing, a key moment in which we prepared ourselves for one of the most fundamental tasks: sowing with love and knowledge!
In total about 20 people attended to receive precise training on how and where to sow, because our work is not just about putting a seed in the ground. Each plant has its own peculiarities and needs, and these are what we need to know in detail. It is essential to know what the soil is like, whether the plant needs more or less sun, or how to prepare the soil so that the topsoil does not dry out after a rain. It is a real dance of details!
Our mission is not only to sow, but to do it efficiently, and for that we need to be well prepared. The weather, and more specifically rainfall, plays a key role in the timing of sowing. As we cannot predict when it will rain, we have to be ready to sow immediately after the rains, a job that requires a lot of flexibility!
That’s why we at Semillistas have a ‘sowing pool’. Although we need around 10 people to carry out the sowing, we have a pool of 20 planters ready to act. This reserve allows us to adapt to any situation, as we don’t know exactly how many will be available when the time comes to sow. This ensures that, whatever happens, we are ready to bring our forests back to life!
We have a lot of planting to do and a lot of hands to join!
